We’ve all been there: you’re in an escape room, the tension is mounting, and you can feel the precious minutes ticking away—but you just feel stuck! Frustrating, right? Luckily, in Red Door fashion, we’re ALWAYS here to help! Keep reading for important tips and tricks on how to beat the clock and help your team make a legendary escape!
1) Communicate:
If you and your team ever find yourselves talking over each other in the excitement of the game, it can be tough to be effective. Communication is key. Speak one at a time and listen to each other. Also, be sure to tell your teammates if and when you find something important!
2) Delegate:
Too many cooks in the kitchen can cause confusion that slows your team down. If you head into an adventure with a specific role for each person’s strong suit, things will flow much faster and WAY smoother!/
3) Avoid Time-Sinks:
If you’re stuck on a puzzle, it’s okay to just leave it and move on to something else for the moment. This can give your brain time to refresh and go back with a new perspective. Chances are that when you return to that puzzle, everything will seem much clearer. Plus, you may come across information that can help you solve it!
4) Take a breath:
Timed experiences like escape adventures can be pretty stressful. Taking time to pause, take a breather, and regain your collective focus can be incredibly helpful. Doing this gives you the chance to regroup and ask yourselves, “What do we need to be focusing on right now, and what can we do to help us escape faster?”
5) Search Thoroughly:
It can be super easy to miss something in a fully-immersive escape room—there’s so much to see and so many fun quirks that can get you sidetracked (they’re kind of designed to do that). Make sure you and your team check out everything so you don’t miss a crucial item, clue, or code.
6) Stay Organized:
Some puzzles can have multiple components and clues that are hidden in different rooms. Keep them organized and nearby so you have them when you need them. This will help your team move swiftly from puzzle to puzzle and possibly room to room.
7) Ask for Help:
At Red Door, we want you to succeed! If you get stuck on that one tricky riddle and it’s slowing you down, we will be happy to point you in the right direction and get you moving again. But be mindful of how often you ask for clues, as you only get a few!
