The Best Proposal Ideas: Top 5 Ways to Put a Ring on It

Fun

February 2022

I think love is always in the air, but it was a little bit more potent this week. Valentine’s Day reared its pink, heart-shaped, little head on Wednesday, surrounding us with decadent chocolates and colorful bouquets sold especially for the holiday. Chocolate Day, I mean Valentine’s Day has passed now and I have the cookie-filled belly to prove it. But… if that accentuated loving feeling is still in your air supply, in fact, if you’ve generated your own two-person atmosphere of love with your special someone, this might be the exact thing you need to be reading right now.

How should I propose???

Sound like a scary question, but it doesn’t have to be! I’m a romantic at heart, so trust me when I say I’ve seen all the ideas: good and bad. I was just at Disneyland last weekend and even witnessed an engagement in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle! That’s a classic. The following ideas are some of my favorites because of how creative, thoughtful, and romantic they are.

So whether you’re looking for inspiration on how to pop the question to your significant other or you’re just a sucker for love, these are my top proposal ideas:

1. Scavenger Hunt Proposal

Best for: Puzzle-lovers, challenge-seekers

If you want to be creative and your S.O. likes a challenge, a scavenger hunt proposal might be just for you! All you have to do is leave written clues leading to a new location (it can be contained in a single house/building or it can go all over town) until it finally leads to you with the ring. Check out some of these scavenger hunt proposals!

2. Video Proposal

Best for: Creatives, videographers, home-video enthusiasts

Depending on how you do it, this could be a more time-consuming route. This first video took a whole year to get all the needed clips, hence it’s called The 365 Day Proposal. But it was so worth it! Another one of my favorites is Jarod’s Proposal to Rebekah. This beautifully filmed and edited video puts Jarod’s filmmaking skills to great use as he compiled numerous candid clips of his girlfriend into a sweet proposal.

3. Vacation Proposal

Best for: Adventure-seekers, travel-lovers

Okay, so you get to travel to a beautiful place and propose to the love of your life? Win, win. Bonus: once you’re married, you’ll just have to keep coming back for annual vacations. I mean, it’ll be your place. It’ll be a great tradition! According to the Travel Channel, these are the top romantic destinations around the world:

  • Santorini, Greece
  • The Maldives
  • Florence, Italy
  • Kauai, Hawaii
  • Carmel, California
  • St. Moritz, Switzerland
  • Quebec City, Quebec
  • Savannah, Georgia
  • Islamorada, Florida
  • Majorca, Spain
  • Koh Tao, Thailand
  • The Berkshires
  • Kyoto, Japan
  • Paris

4. First Date Proposal

Best for: Lovers of sentimental/nostalgic gestures

This proposal idea is sure to tug at heartstrings. Where was your first date with your future fiancé(e)? Or maybe the more significant date was your first meeting. Wherever it might be, take your S.O. back to that place where sparks flew for the first time. It’ll be amazing to see how far you’ve both come.https://cdn.embedly.com/widgets/media.html?type=text%2Fhtml&key=c4e54deccf4d4ec997a64902e9a30300&schema=instagram&url=https%3A//www.instagram.com/p/BTZkKnTF8ZP/&image=https%3A//scontent-iad3-1.cdninstagram.com/vp/f60a1800a1a75dad04bed40db7d84444/5A8A98E6/t51.2885-15/s640x640/e15/18161002_628740670668617_6081736676831395840_n.jpg

5. Escape Room Proposal

Best for: Puzzle-lovers, challenge-seekers

You’ve just beat the clock and solved all the clues. You’re on top of the world!
How much higher can you get? Launch into the stratosphere with a proposal as the cherry on top.

At Red Door, we host and help plan all sorts of events: one of them being proposals. Now, something that was once nerve-racking can be a lot less so.

She said yes!

While these are all cute and fun, the best proposal is always the one that is thoughtful and celebrates what makes your love unique. Some things that might spark a proposal idea are your inside jokes, favorite songs or movies, and special locations. If you’re lucky, your S.O. might even have a Pinterest board all about it. But whatever you choose to do, simple or extravagant—make it personal, make it memorable, and make it full of love.
